Have you heard the old proverb “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach?” I would imagine the same could be said for a woman’s heart if she is romantically wined and dined.
Valentine’s Day was just celebrated last week by many lovers sharing feasts that tempt the taste buds. I wonder about the biological road trip after dinner from the stomach to the heart that often travels to the finish line by the genitals. Dr. Baccalà’s BGL, Brain Genital Law, is also the pilot of this trip.
I called my sister in California to ask her where her husband was taking her to dinner. She proudly told me she had been in the kitchen all day making his favorite dish, spaghetti and meatballs. Thirty-five years ago, before they were married, she made a special trip to Pennsylvania to meet his Italian born grandmother. They spent hours in her kitchen, without any cookbooks, and my sister learned the treasured family recipe for meatballs and red sauce. Now that’s amore! Her husband proposed not long after that. She has been making those meatballs and gravy for the last 35 years and they are very much in love.
I just learned from another young man in love that he dined out with his sweetheart on Valentine’s Day and meatballs were his preference on the menu. He also told me that Italians were among the first early settlers in Iowa and started many wonderful restaurants. He loves meatballs too.
So I started thinking how seductive meatballs can be. Any time I ask an Italian, male or female, about their special recipe they reply with orgasmic enthusiasm! I once wrote an article about foods that put you in the mood, but I think it is tough to top the sexy meatball!
I have actually been to several charity sponsored meatball contests where the competition is more intense than a death scene in an Italian opera, particularly among the men. Joy, rage, jealousy, love and sorrow are all on stage with the meatballs!
But, I believe love trumps all when it comes to the beloved meatball! So head for the kitchen with your ground beef (with or without veal and pork), your eggs, your breadcrumbs (soaked in milk or water), parsley and whatever other ingredients turn you on (raisins, garlic, onions, basil, oregano, etc.) Hopefully your meatballs will inspire a romantic trip to your bedroom for more pleasure!
